WaterCAN and Adopt-a-River wants national government to intervene in Durban pollution crisis.

WaterCAN, a water-focused initiative driven by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) and Adopt-a-River, a KZN based non-profit organisation working on key waterways, have joined hands on one of Durban’s key river systems. The two groups of water activists have committed to undertake a series of bacterial and chemical tests along the Umbilo River, a highly polluted river that requires urgent intervention.

The tests done by Talbot, revealed that all Durban rivers that were tested for E.Coli ranged between 250 and 500 – which is an acceptable level.

Durban – The effects of this year’s flooding are still being felt, after warnings from the eThekwini Municipality and Talbot – a water treatment service company – stated that beaches along the Durban coastline and some rivers are not safe for use.

The issue about whether waters in and around Durban are safe for recreational use has, for the past few months, remained a controversial topic. Unsanitary water conditions remain a major concern  

On the 27th oh January 2022, Talbot partnered with NGO Adopt a river Eco Solution to raise awareness around the water quality of eThekwini beaches and rivers.

Sustainable water and wastewater specialist Talbot is in the final stages of commissioning a water treatment plant that will enable one of its clients in the gold sector to take a step towards water independence while significantly reducing its expenditure on municipal supplies. It will do this by recovering water pumped from underground workings that would otherwise be wasted.
